PLCSIM Advanced is a good tool that enables the possibility to emulate a CPU, including its firmware version and configuration. Here below some tips on how to configure it:
- Ensure the PLCSIM NIC (Siemens PLCSIM Virtual Ethernet Adapter) is enabled and in the same subnet as the physical NIC. The address does not have to be identical as the one of the real CPU.
- Setup the IP address on the PLCSIM Advanced, insert an instance name and check the configuration is correct: Online Access type TCP/IP Single Adapter, TCP/IP communication with the physical NIC, then start the CPU emulation.
- Download the project: PG/PC interface: Siemens PLCSIM Virtual Ethernet Adapter. Wait until TIA Portal completes the scan, then select show accessible devices. The default IP of PLCSIM (i.e., 192.168.0.1) will appear, then it is possible to load the project to that CPU.
Note: The CPU must be S7-1500, S7-1200 are not compatible with PLCSIM Advanced.
