#117 - What to do when something goes wrong with your sinamics drives G120 / G120C / S120

Sometimes when configuring or commissioning frequency converters or servo drives, such as the sinamics G120 / G120C / S120, things go wrong. Here below a summarized list of ideas to help troubleshooting :

> Assign Profinet name and IP address to the device

> Upgrade to the latest firmware version available for the drive. Notes: #1 Important is to have available a suitable 2GB memory card for this operation #2 Downgrade firmware may be required to reset certain parameters in case of issue or troubleshooting

> It is helpful to know well both software Startdrive (within TIA Portal) and Starter to configure and troubleshoot the drive. Each of them has its pros and cons.

> Safety Commissioning: useful for hardwired Safety Function or networked Safety Function with PROFIsafe, such as Safe-Torque Off (STO)         > Ensure the drive is Online         > Ensure the configuration is copied from RAM to ROM when the Safety Commissioning has ended         > Power cycle the drive         > When using Starter (external to TIA Portal) the Safety Commissioning can be done and afterwards uploaded in TIA Portal and connected to the rest of the project
